Dr Gemma K. Alderton, PhD

After a PhD at the University of Sussex (working on DNA damage responses) and a short post-doc at Cancer Research UK (working on DNA replication), I became an editor in 2006. Mostly working at Nature Reviews Cancer, I also worked at Nature Reviews Molecular Cell Biology and handled papers on a freelance basis for Nature and Nature Communications.

In 2017, I moved to Science where I handled Perspectives and Reviews across biology. I became the Deputy Editor of the Insights section, managing a team to deliver high-quality Perspectives and other commentary every week. I also oversaw the Reviews at Science and as a member of the management team, I helped develop strategies to bring research submissions to the journal.

In 2024, I decided to switch my focus from serving journals, to serving scientists.
